" Failures of Solenoid Valves Manufactured By Valcor Engineering Corporation" NRC Docket Nos. 50-454/455 and 50-456/457-References (a): T. J. Rausch letter to J. G. Keppler dated February 11, 1981 (b): T. J. Rausch letter to J. G. Keppler dated April 16, 1981

Dear Mr. Keppler:

Commonwealth Edison Company p,rovided in Reference (a) our response to IE Bulletin 80-23 for Byron Units 1 and 2 and Braidwood Units *1 and 2. In that response we indicated our intent to replace certain Valcor soleno'id valve coils at these stations and that our schedule was to have replacement completed by April 16, 1981.

Subsequently, Reference (b) advised you that our expected replacement completion date would be June, 1981.

This letter is to advise you that the Valcor solenoid valves have been returned to Valcor to have the defective coils replaced. Due to vendor sc'heduling problems, our expected schedule for coil replacement completion is now October 1, 1981.

Please address any questions you may have concerning this matter to this office.

Very truly yours, E. Douglas Swartz Nuclear Licensing Administrator cc: D i r e c t o r', Division of Reactor Operations Inspection 2177N g5d 63 0 81 os 23o 3Qf JUN 181981
