Fairbanks Morse Model 38TD3-1/8 Limerick Unit Two, Emergency Standby Diesel Generator Prestart Inspections

Dear Mr. Mourer:

Due to the extensive storage period of Fairbanks Morse Emergency Standby Diesel Generators, S/N 878018, 879060, 880010, and 880026, Fairbanks Morse recommends the following inspections and corrective actions be taken prior to System and engine start up 3

a. Due to the pos.ibility of chemical action between the crankshafts and aluminum bearings, the main and connecting rod bearings should be replaced and the crankshaft journals relapped.
b. Inspect cylinder liner bores.
c. Replace generator end bearing,
d. Plush and inspect engine jacket water, fuel intercooler, and lubricating oil systems, l
e. Hydrostatically test engine jacket water system,
f. Clean engine lubricating oil pan, fill engine system With oil and inspect all engine lubrication pressure points.  !

g. Inspect engine turbochargers. ///

j. Flush engine governors.
k. Check engine alignment.
1. Remove and inspect tappet assemblies of cylinders positioned

-at high can.

Upon completion of the above corrective action and inspections, the engine should be run in under Service Information letter Run-In Schedule, Volume A, Issue 5. Sheet 3 of 4 dated 6/22/87.
