Re: In the Matter of Commonwealth Edison Company (Byron Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2)

Docket Nos. 50-454 and 50-455 Gentlemen:

I am submitting the revised testimony of tir. Thomas F. Timmons concerning the steam generator tube integrity issues (Contentions 22 and 9.c.). Mr. Timmons addresses the flow-induced vibration issue and the original version of his testimony was filed on February 15, 1983. It has now been revised to reflect the most current status of the proposed modifications to the Byron steam generators to minimize tube wear due to flow-induced vibration.

Specifically, Mr. Timmon's answer to Question 13 has been revised and new questions and answers 14 - 17 have been added. The summary of Mr. Timmon's testimony has also been appropriately revised. In all other respects, Mr. Timmon's revised testimony is unchanged from that filed on February 15, 1983.

I am also submitting the testimony of Mr. Lawrence D. Butterfield who explains, in his 6 pages of testimony, Commonwealth Edison's position with respect to the modifica-tions proposed by Westinghouse and Mr. Timmons. The enclosed testimony is being deliverd simultaneously by hand at today's 8304260392 830421 PDR ADOCK 05000454 T PDR 4

hearing in Rockford and by expedited delivery from Washington D.C.

I will present Messrs. Timmons, Butterfield, Fletcher, Hitchler and Blomgren.as a panel on Monday, April 25 when the steam generator tube integrity issues resume.

As agreed upon at the close of the-hearing on Friday, April 18, I' expect.to present this panel as the first order of business on April'25. I also suggest that Messrs. Timmons and Rajan (the Staff's witness subject to recall) be cross-examined in camera because of the potential for eliciting.

proprietary data during cross-examination.

Sincerely,

. 13 oseph Gallo One of the Attorneys for Commonwealth Edison Company JG/jg Enclosure cc: Service List 4
