Item 3 - Round Rod Round rod to be used for anchor bolts must equal or exceed the tensile requirements of Table 3 of ASTM-36A unless otherwise -

. noted on the drawings. Both our designs and the bolt sizes specified by many of the equipment suppliers are based on this premise. This requirement is' applicable to both "Q" and "Non-Q" anchor bolts.

Both A108 and grade 1018 designations require conformance to

chemical but not physical properties. Published typical properties are no guarantee for particular items and since in
most cases anchor bolts have been designed for specific loads, f"

A108 steel is not acceptable for Lhis purpose.

2 Item 4 - Flat Bar i

Flat bar used for structural load bearing purposes must conform a to the requirements of ASTM-A36. For other flat bars, such as 9 bars on angles at openings to retain concrete, the use of weld-j able merchant quality- bars is acceptable.

Small angles use'd for structural purposes such as bracing, parts j of pipe and cable tray support systems, platform support members, j etc. , must conform to ASTM-A36. Non-load bearing small angles y# such as those 'used for concrete edge prutection can be of weld-able merchant quality. _

g For all' load bearing members certification of both chemical and physical properties, are required except that for floor plate

certified load tables may be acceptable. For nuclear safety related material as identified on the drawings, certificates i showing actual physical and chemical properties should be fur-f nished and traceable to individual pieces.

REASON FOR CHANGE:

Difficulty in obtaining flat bar stock materials meeting chemical and physical ,

criteria of ASTM A-36 or A-108 as required by specification. Also high cost  ;

or impractibility to. cut, shear, or saw these small sizes from A-36 plate i-materials. High cost and pocr delivery to special order from direct mill sources. Due to typical applications of this size material it is not produced to strength requirements of ASTM A-36. Also, due to low demand and high cost, j it is not normally produced as a A-108 cold finished item.
