. - SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

1. Repdre No.: 50-302/77-79
2. Facility: Crystal River Unit #3
3. Report Date: 3 August 1977
4. Occurrence Date: 8 J917 1977
5. Identification of Occurrence:

Inoperability of gas chromatograph contrary to Technical Specification 4.6.4.1.

6. Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Mode 1 power operation.

7. Description of Occurrence:

At 2150 the Fisher gas chromatograph failed to meet the calibration acceptance i criteria as required by Technical Specifications. The 1 and 4 volume percent hydrogen, ...

balsace nitrogen calibration would not meet the requirements due to apparent separation

column degradation resulting in a loss of resolution. A replacement separation column was ordered and the gas chromatograph has been restored operable.

B ,, Designation of Apparent Cause:

The cause of this event was the failure of the colum to perform its intended function.

9. Analysis of Occurrence:

The safety and health of the plant and public were not affected as a redundant hydrogen analyzer was available and operable.

10. Corrective Action:

A spare separation column will be maintained at all times in order that corrective action can be accomplished in a timely manner.

11. Failure Data:

This was the first occurrence of this event. It was the second occurrence of the inoperability of this device. Refer to LER 77-72.
