SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION m

D fl D,J

1. Report No.: 50-302/77-134E . (j g
2. Tccility: Crystal River Unir #3 g "}
3. Report Date: 9 November 1977 v - - C
4. Occurrence Date: 1 January - 30 September 1977 (discovered 27 Oct. 1977)
5. Identiff. cation of Occurrence:

Environmental samples were not analyzed using procedures which provided LLD's equal to or less than those required by the Environe: ental Technical Specifications.

6. Conditions Prior to Occurrence s NA
7. Description of Occurrence ,

lhe following samples had LLD's greater than required by ETS for the below indicated dates:

Scavate_r _(6 stations) Jan. fyril Mav June Julv Auht . Sept.

p (#> ETS) 2 3 5 2 6 IS 18 NOTE: The seawater reports for the period of Jr..-July are nuclides that are in addition to the martples as reported by LER 77-111E, dated 21 Sept. 1977.

Potable _tiater (3 stations) Quarter,#1 Quarter #2 Qua rte r_iQ Quarter $/.

( O E*S) 14 2 7 5

8. Designation c Apparent Cause:

Inadequate techniques, procedures, and/or equipment to achieve the required LLD's. l Higher than normal LLD's can also result from high activ? ty in a sar ple or from the lack of adequacc sample size.

9. Analysis of Occurrence:

The average concentrations of the nuclides whose LLD's were greater than ETS for each sample station were below the preoperational 95 percentile concentration.

Therefore, there has been no undetected damage to the environtnent adjacent to Crystal River Unit #3.

O. Corrective Action:

Analysis procedures are being revised to allow for longer count times and better calculations of background counts. These will lead to LLD's which should be below the ETS limit. In addition, the LLD's are being. re-evaluated to determine if there are any errors in the LLD Tables.

1. )1ureData:

v This is the second report for this type of occurrence. Refer to LER 77-111E dated 21 September 19 77.
