Subject:
Crystal River Unit 3 Docket No. 50-302 Operating License No. DPR-72 PORV Block Valve
Dear Mr. Denton:
Pursuant to conversations with members of your staff, Florida Power Corporation hereby documents a recent event at Crystal River Unit 3.
On January 2,1982, while performing surveillance on the Power Operated Relief Valve (PORV) Block Valve (RCV-ll), it was discovered that the valve would not cycle to the full closed position. During the next plant shutdown, on January 10, 1982, a repair crew was sent to determine the cause of the valve malfunction and repair it. The cause could not be determined.
The PORV Block Valve was closed manually and power operation resumed. Crystal River Unit 3 continued to operate with the PORV Block Valve closed until January 28, 1982, when repairs were effected.
Alternate overpressure protection was afforded by the pressurizer code safety valves while the PORV and the Block Valve were out-of-service.
If you have any questions, please contact this office.
Very truly yours, om a^ N David G. Mardis Acting Manager, Nuclear Licensing cc:
