Identification of occurrence:
Air inhalation sample station C41 showed gross S activity in excess of ten times the control station activity.

Conditions Prior to Occurrences Crystal River Unit #3 was operating in Mode 1, power operation.

Description of occurrence:
The weekly ai; umple at station C41 for 30 September - 7 October 197'~ was analyzed for I-131 activity. The activity was 0.13 pCi/m3 This is greater s.
than 10 times the control station value which is the smaller of 0.004 pC1/m3 (upper 95% percentile value from the preoperational program) or 0.13 pC1/m3 (upper 95 percentile from operational stations outside of the plant's influence).

Designation of Apparent Cause:
The apparent cauac of this occurrence is the fallout resulting from the nuclear weapons tent by the Peoples Republic of China on 19 September 1977.
A sittilar increase in airborne activity levels was reported throughout the State of Florida.

Crystal River Unit #3 did not cause the radiological environmental monitoring reporting level to be exceeded.

This is the accond occurrence of this particular t.ype subseque_nt to the issuance of the Crystal River Unic #3 Facility Operating License, humorous similar occurrences were detected during the preoperational program.
