1. Facility: Crystal River Unit #3
2. Report Date: 23 September 1977
3. Occurrence Date: 9-10 September 1977
4. Identification of Occurrence:

, Biomass of fish and shellfish impinged on the intake screens of Units 1, 2, and 3 exceeded the 50 kg/24 hr. reporting byel of Section 3.1.3 of the Environmental Technical Specifications.

5. Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Unit #1 - All water ' circulation pumps operational.

l Unit #2 - All water circulation pumps operational.

I l Unit #3 - All water circulation pumps operational.

l 6. Description of Occurrence: -

l During the period 0900, 9 September 1977 to 090010 September 1977, 69.33 kg of fish and shellfish were impinged on the intake screens of Crystal River Units 1, 2, and 3. Of the 69.33 kg impinged, Unit f3 accounted for 39.00 kg (56% of total). One coinnercially unimportant

species, the batfish, accounted for 11.49 kg (17% of total). Two i commercially utilized species, the pink shrimp and the blue crab ac-counted for 54.50 kg (79% of total). Impingement of all other com-mercia11y utilized species was less than 1 kg during the period in question. The remaining biomass impinged was distributed among several species of fish and shellfish.
7. Designation of Apparent Caus,e of Occurrence:

The following unusual or periodic event was noted during the occurrence.

l One oil barge left the intake canal during the survey.

This . event may have been partially responsible for the impingement observed. ~
