' MONTH: JULY 1998

SUMMARY

STATEMENT-Crystal River Unit #3 was on line throughout the month of July 1998. There were four power reductions during the period.

! Power was reduced to 85% on 07/02 to remove the "D" circulating water pump from service I to troubleshoot a low cooling water flow alarm to the pump upper bearing. The pump upper bearing was found degraded as a result of deposits on the bearing surface from impurities in the cooling water to the bearing. Power was restored to 100% following the investigation l l to meet high electrical demand at the time. The pump rotating element and upper bearing were

( replaced during a subsequent power reduction on 07/09.

I Power was reduced to 94.5% on 07/05 to troubleshoot an oscillating problem at governor valve GV-4. The cause for the oscillation was a bad electro-hydraulic servo valve (MOOG).

The MOOG valve for GV-4 was replaced.

Power was reduced to 95% on 07/24 to perform turbine stop valve and governor valve testing, i
