JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAh PLANT UNIT 1 NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
OF OPERATIONS FEBRUARY, 1979 In February, 1979, there were four unit shutdowns (all automatically initiated) and four power reductions. The unit tripped February 14 due to a voltuge drop in the vital AC system induced by a short circuit at the SSPS cabinet while trouble shooting. This caused an indicated loss of flow in lA RCS loop. During power ascention, delta-flux exceeded its band causing an accumulation of >60 penalty points which limited reactor power to 50%. Afte2 the delta-flux penalty points above 60 were cleared, reactor power was limited to 90% due to 3B and 4B feedwater heaters being isolated. Feedwater heater 4B had definite tube leakage.
The unit tripped February 16 due to a loss of main generator excitation. The door to the main generator potential transformer cabinet was opened to check for moisture, causing the potential transformers to disconnect, resulting in a loss of excitation. Signs were posted notifying plant personnel not to open the main generator potential transformer cabinet with tne main generator in service. During startup, the unit tripped twice due to lA Steam Generator low-low level, once due to initiating steam dump operation with insufficient feed flow makeup from auxiliary feed water and once due to manual operation of the feed regulating valves.
During power ascention, delta-flux exceeded its band causing an accumulation of >60 penalty points which limited reactor power to 50%. After the delta-flux penalty points above 60 were cleared, reactor power was limited to 90% due to 3B and 4B feedwater heaters being isolated. Feedwater heater 4B tube leaks were repaired and the unit returned to 100% power on February 22.
The following significant safety-related maintenance was performed in February:
- 1. Repaired oil leak on 1B Reactor Makeup Water Pump
- 2. Replaced mechanical seal on lA BIT recirculating pump
- 3. Repaired seat leakage on RHR drain valves
- 4. Replaced rupture discs on Waste and Recycle evaporators
- 5. Replaced concentrates pump on Waste and Recycle evaporators
- 6. Replaced master key test switch in BlJ, BlH, BlG and B1F Diesel sequencers 7903210147
- 7. Gverhauled 1D service air compressor. Commenced overhaul of 1B service air comnressor
- 8. Pulled 1A Service Water pump for overhaul
- 9. Completed testing on Service Water pond level switch.
