INTERIM REPORT

Dear Hr. O'Railly:

Per our September 5, 1979, interim report on tho sub)act deficiency, wa informed you that there vere 236 plates in question that required corrective action. Par our February 29, 1980, latter on the eub)oct deficiency, ve informed you that (a) three plates still xemain on gA hold pendiug completion of corrective action involving NDE, (b) 'engineering evaluation of several plates remain incomplete, (c) final accountability of all plates still needs to be resolved, and (d) that tna estimated data for completion of correction action ie June 1, 1980.

1aa intent of this letter ie to inform you that further investigation hae revealed that there aro now a total of 469 plates that are in corrective action hae not yat boon completed aud it question,'ll ie estimated that corrective action vie.1 ba completed by September 1, 1980, at which time tha final 10CFR50.55(a) report vill ba submitted. Qe will routinely keep you appraised of our progress on this item during your site inspection visits. Tha current status of corrective action is as follove:

kh. James P. O'Reilly Hay 30 1980 (a) Of the 469 defective plates identified, corrective action has been completed on 439 plates, 8 plates are lost and 22 still require som form of corrective action (10 out ofplates these 22 plates require Engineering evaluation),

(b) Ve have verifi'ed that. the 8 unaccounted for plates have not been installed and have instituted measures to preclude them from being installed without the proper corrective action being taken. Qe suspect that the unaccountability of the 8 plates is either a bookkeeping error or the plates have been mistaIcenly scrapped.

Xf you have any questions regardinE thi's matterplease do not hesitate'o contact me.

Tours very truly, OiigInil Signed Bhr N '>.'Chiangi
