Dear Dr. Grace:
On August 15, 1986, CP&L notified the NRC (Mr. L. Meilen) of a j
potentially reportable item per the provisions of 10C'FR$0.55(e) and 10CFR, Part 21.
The NRC was informed that Westinghouse had notified CP&L of a potential unreviewed issue relating to a Loss of Coolant Accident occurring during Modes 3 & 4.
1 j
Since this issue is generic to Westinghouse plante, thu Westirighouse Owners Group (WOC) is addressing it.
CP&L will pursue resolution i
through the WOC.
CP&L has docketed with NRR (CP&L Letter NLS-86-320 dated 8-26-86) the intent to follow the WOC cn this issue. As sneh, l
CP&L is unable to make a reportatility determination at this time.
Since it is currently expected that the WOC ef fort on this r.atter will extend into mid 1987, it is projected that CP&L will report 1.o the NRC on the reportability determination cf this issue by July 1, 1987.
Thank you for your consideration in this vaatter.
Yours very truly, NA 8607190278 hoc 721 PDH ADOCK 0D000400 R. A. Wataen S
