On May 18, 1988, Carolina Power & Light Company submitted to the NRC a 10CFR21 Notification (NRC-625) concerning a deficiency in the control and power circuits for DC motor-operated valves due to the lack of surge protection. The report provided the corrective actions taken and the interim measures established to ensure the proper operation of the subject DC motor-operated valves until permanent surge protection was installed.

It was projected at that time that a modification would be implemented to install the required surge protection by October 1, 1988.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the current projected date for installation of this modification is now November 4, 1988.
