Dear Dr. Grace:
On August 15,
- 1986, CP&L notified the NRC (Mr. L. Mellen) of a potentially reportable item per the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) and 10CFR, Part 21.
The NRC was informed that Westinghouse had notified CP&L of a potential unreviewed issue relating to a Loss of Coolant Accident occurring during Modes 3
& 4.
In CP&L's September ll, 1986 letter (HO-860346(0)) to the
- NRC, we projected that a reportability determination and final report would be issued by July 1, 1987.
CP&L continues to pursue resolution of this generic issue through the Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG) as committed to in CP&L letter (NLS-86-320) dated August 26, 1986.
We had originally anticipated that the WOG effort would conclude by mid-1987, however, discussion on methodology is still ongoing between NRR and WOG.
We are unable to define a completion date for this item, but will continue to follow through the WOG effort and implement the WOG resolution.
At that time, CP&L will formally notify you of the Shearon Harris specific resolution of this issue.
