Iowa Electric Light and Ibwer Company '~i . Mag May 30, 1985 NG-85-2395 Mr. James G. Keppler Regional Administrator Region III U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137

Subject:

Duane Arnold Energy Center Docket No: 50-331 Op. License No: DPR-49 National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Violation Report Ref: Letter, L. Root to H. Denton, " License Amendment 84 Regarding Water Quality Requirements," NG-83-1424, April 25, 1983 File: A-107a, A-879

Dear Mr. Keppler:

Per our referenced letter, Iowa Electric Light and Power Company agreed to submit to your office copies of all NPDES Violation Reports.

Enclosed with this letter is a copy of the DAEC Sewage Treatment monthly monitoring report for April, 1985. This report contains.one (1) violation of the NPDES permit effluent limits. This violation is:

(1) April,1985, total suspended solids monthly average = 31 mg/L.

This violates the monthly average limit of 30 mg/L. However, the

~

monthly. average pounds of total suspended solids (3.9) did not exceed the effluent limit of 12.5.

This effluent violation is the result of the additional loading from the outage personnel. The increased loading will continue to be a problem until the end of our current refueling outage. During this period, Iowa Electric is making every effort to keep the sewage treatment plant in compliance with our NPDES effluent limits.

Should you have any questions'regarding this matter, please contact me.

Very truly yours, Y ,3 g 8506200454 850530 PDR MM t R ADOCK O g 331 Richard W.-Mc Manager, Nuclea.ghvision RWM/SAR/ta*
