Dear Sirs:

l o

In accordance with 10 CFR 50.46(a)(3)(ii), the guidance in NRC Information Not ice 97-15 and its Supplement 1, IES Utilities Inc. reports the change in the calculated peak ,

cladding temperature (PCT) for the Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC). This report ,0 0 covers the period from the last annual report (Reference 1) through June of this year.

Subsequent to the last annual report (Reference 1), an error was discovered in our Loss-of-Coolant Accident (LOCA) Analysis during an industry-sponsored audit of General Electric's LOCA analysis methods, in which IES Utilities Inc. participated. The error involved the use ofincorrect flowrates for the Core Spray and Residual lleat Removal Systems. This error results in an increase of 10 F (conservatively estimated) in the calculated PCT previously reported for the DAEC.

1 This PCT change, when combined with all the respective PCT changes reported since the

_1993 LOCA analysis, results in a cumulative PCT change of 45 F for the DAEC (sum of the absolute magnitudes of all tha respective temperature changes).

None of the PCT changes and errors reported in the recent General Electric Annual Report (Reference 2) are applicable to the DAEC. ,

Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact this office.
