' SUBJECT: ' OPERATOR LICENSING EXAMINATION REPORT 50-331/99302(OL)

Dear Mr. Wilson:

The Nuclear Regalatory Commission examiners completed initial operator licensing

examinations at your Duane Amold Energy Center on September 24,1999. The license

applicants' performance evaluations were finalized on October 15,1999. The examinere

reviewed several administrative and operating procedures during the examination validation and

administration. The enclosed report presents the results of the examination and concurrent

operations inspection.

The examiners administered operating tests and writ'en examinations to two reactor operator

and four senior reactor operator license applicar's. All six applicants passed all sections of the

examination and were issued operating licenses. The applicants were well prepared for the

operating test and written examination. In generai, they displayed good operating and

. communications skills during the operating test. The small number of questions missed by

^ more than 50% of the applicants and good operating skills indicated a comprehensive training

program that met the needs of the applicants.

It is our expectation that the Duane Amold Energy Center training department instructors will

use the applicant and examination weaknesses outlined in the accompanying repart as

feedback to improve the operator license training program in accordance with your Systematic

Approach to Training program.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the

enclosures to this letter will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
