SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE January 1987 Unit 2 was operated at approximately 97% reactor power throughout the month of January with load being adjusted as necessary to limit generator end turn vibration.
On January 21, at 1030 hours0.0119 days
0.286 hours
0.0017 weeks
3.91915e-4 months
, a load reduction was initiated due to concern over operability of the service water flow control. valves, which provide flow controls for cooling the lubricating oil and jacket water of the diesel generators.
Subsequent measurements and analysis concluded the valves were operable.
Reduction was terminated at 60% reactor power and the unit was returned to 96% reactor power at 1800_ hours.
On January 29, while at 97% reactor power and 835 MWe, load was reduced to 300 MWe due to a declaration of inoperability of #21 battery bank.
Freezing outdoor ambient temperatures had resulted in cooler than normal air being drawn into the battery rooms and an Engineering analysis de-termined that the battery's ability to perform its Technical Specification intended function could not be assured.
As a result, plant shutdown commenced at 1620 hours0.0188 days
0.45 hours
0.00268 weeks
6.1641e-4 months
.
Portable heaters were utilized and the ventilation ducts on the north wall of the cable spreading room were sealed. By 2145 hours0.0248 days
0.596 hours
0.00355 weeks
8.161725e-4 months
, temperatures had returned to acceptable levels and the portable heaters were removed.
Unit power escalation commenced from 300 MWe.
The unit was returned to full power on January 30 at 0200 hours0.00231 days
0.0556 hours
3.306878e-4 weeks
7.61e-5 months
.
The unit was shut down for a planned inspection of the main electric generator on January 30.
