SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE OCTOBER 1985 On October 4 at 1647 hours0.0191 days
0.458 hours
0.00272 weeks
6.266835e-4 months
Indian Point Unit 3 was returned to service after a 118 day Refueling and Maintenance Outage.

On October 4 at 1812 hours0.021 days
0.503 hours
0.003 weeks
6.89466e-4 months
a unit trip occurred due to a feedwater transient causing a Hi-Hi Steam Generator level in #33 Steam Generator.

It was determined that #33 feedwater regulating valve responded sluggishly to its control input signals.

Subsequent investigation of No. 33 feedwater regulator revealed that positioner linkage assembly had overspanned its full travel lie t.

The positioner assembly was replaced, the other linkage assemblies were inspected, and all four feedwater regulating valves were cycled to verify operability. The unit was returned to service at 2323 hours0.0269 days
0.645 hours
0.00384 weeks
8.839015e-4 months
.

On October 15 at 1516 hours0.0175 days
0.421 hours
0.00251 weeks
5.76838e-4 months
a unit trip occurred due to a Turbine Control Oil Autostop Trip. The cause of the trip was determined to be foreign matter in the main turbine high pressure oil system, which blocked orifices in the multiple orifice and check valve assemblies.

The oil strainers and other system components were inspected cleaned and flushed.

The reactor was brought critical at 1855 hours0.0215 days
0.515 hours
0.00307 weeks
7.058275e-4 months
.

At 0125 hours0.00145 days
0.0347 hours
2.066799e-4 weeks
4.75625e-5 months
on October 16 the main generator was synchronized to the grid and subsequently the plant was returned to pre-trip conditions.

Indian Point Unit #3 was synchronized to the bus for a total of 640.88 hours0.00102 days
0.0244 hours
1.455026e-4 weeks
3.3484e-5 months
producing a gross generation of 226,970 MWH for this reporting period.
