Environmental Deviation The following deviation was reported to Mr. Walt Baunack, Region 1, Of fice of Inspection and Enforcement, United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission on May 13, 1975 Ra'eranent Iicence N. & r nuo 1.1/,rf Environmental Technical Specification 2.1 Report No.: 50-277/ 278-75-10 Report Date: May 23, 1975 Deviation Date: May 13, 1975 Facility: Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Units 2 cnd 3 R.D. 1, Delta, Pennsylvania 17314 Identification of Deviation:

Loss of a second fan on the "3" cooling tower.

Conditions Prior to Deviation:

With the tower in service, the "J" fan tripped intermittently from high vibration.

Designation of Apparent Cause of Deviation:

Worn motor bearings. p '/

_ Analysis of Deviation: cud "f As there were nine of eleven fans running, there were no significant environmental consequences as a result of the inoperability of this fan. The water temperature leaving the tower changed only slightly. River flow during this period was in excess of 60,000 CFS.

Corrective Action:

o The bearings on the motor were replaced and the fan was re-turned to service.
