Paich Bottom Atomic Power Station Unit 2 June 1 through June 30,1998
- 1. Narrative Summary of operatino Experiences Unit 2 began the month of June at 95% core thermal power, limited by end-of-cycle coastdown.
I The Unit reduced power to 71% on June 1 following failure of a scram solenoid pilot '
valve (SSPV) which caused a sir,glo control rod to scram. The unit retumed to 93%
power on June 2 at 12:00, limited by end-of-cycle coastdown and the inserted control rod.
The Unit reduced power to 73% on June 2 to withdraw the control rod following repairs to its SSPV. The Unit retumed to 95% core thermal power on June 3 at 12:00.
The Unit reduced power to 65% starting at 01:00 on June 5 for on-line maintenance of the hydraulic control units, which eliminated the remaining SSPVs with potential problems. Power was further reduced to 37% at 16:00 on June 7 as a result of a recirc pump runback caused by electrical grid instability. Power retumed to 65% on June 8 at 10:00 to resume on-line maintenance. The Unit returred to 96% core thermal power on June 11 at 21:00 following the completion of maintenance.
Unit 2 ended the month of June at 88% power.
