SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION O 1. Report No.: 50-302/77-48

2. Facility: Crystal River Unit #3 i
3. Report Date: 7 June 1977
4. Occurrence Date: 15 May 1977
5. Identification of Occurrence:

33 Ft. wind direction meteorological monitoring instrumentation channel inoperable contrary to Technical Specification 3.3.3.4, Table 3.3-8.

6. Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

The plant was in Mode 5 with outage maintenance in progress.

7. Description of Occurrence: ,

At 0800 the wind direction pen on recorder MM-2A-SR was discovered to be ;'

inoperable. An investigation revealed the direction sensor was not responsive to changes in wind direction. The direction sensor was renewed and the system was restored operable within 48 hours5.555556e-4 days
0.0133 hours
7.936508e-5 weeks
1.8264e-5 months
.

8. Designation of Apparent Cause:

Failure of the 33 Ft. wind direction sensor.

9. Analysis of Occurrence:

There were no safety implications as the 175 Ft. wind direction was operable and in service and there were no gaseous releases from the plant during inoperability of the 33 Ft. wind direction sensor.

10. Corrective Action:

The sensor for the 33 Ft. wind direction system was renewed.

11. Failure Data:

This was the first occurrence of this type.
