Division of PWR Licensing-B U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555 Docket 50-312 Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station License No. DPR-54

Dear Mr. Miraglia:

By letter dated April 1, 1987, the District submitted to the Commission Proposed Amendment No. 147, Revision 2.

In the response to question 2 of Enclosure 10 of the April 1,1987, letter, the District committed to provide a resolution of the issue of Class 1 indication of the diesel generator status in the Control Room. Prior to restart from the present outage, the District will provide a seismically qualified indication for the status of the Transamerica DeLaval (TDI) Diesel generators, either by qualification of Interim Data Acquisition Display System (IDADS) or by a single qualified indication per each TDI diesel generator.

The seismic qualification of either option will be based on the work of the Seismic Qualification Utility Group (SQUG) and the approach addressed in NRC Generic Letter 87-02: Verification of Seismic Adequacy of Mechanical and Electrical Equipment in Operating Reactors, Unresolved Safety Issue (USI) A-46.

The District has previously discussed the approach described above during an NRC review with Mr. Ed Tomlinson.
