Dear Mr. Merschoff:

i In accordance with a condition specified in the NRC Safety Evaluation Report for l License Amendment No. 45 to Facility Operating License No. DPR-54, the District is l

l required to notify the NRC concerning Rancho Seco NPDES wastewater discharge l permit violations. Enclosed is a copy of the Rancho Seco Monthly Discharger Self-l Monitoring Report for March 1998, which makes note of one wastewater discharge I permit violation.

Because of heavy rains during the reporting period, the Rancho Seco Park wastewater j treatment pond level was higher than its minimum required two feet of freeboard during March. On March 9,1998, Rancho Seco personnel recorded the least amount of Rancho Seco Park wastewater treatment pond freeboard at 1.9 feet. The Rancho Seco Park wastewater treatment pond re<stablished its minimum required two feet of g freeboard beginning March 10,1998.
