3. Occurrence Date: 24-25 March,1977
4. Identification of Occurrence: ,

Biomass of fish and shellfish impinged on the intake screens of Units 1, 2 and 3 exceeded the 50 kg/24hr reporting level of section 3.1.3 of the Environmental Technical Specifications.

5. Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Unit #1 - All water circulation pumps non-operational.

(Unit 1 down, maintenance)

Unit #2 - All water circulation pumps operating normally.

Unit #3 - All water a.irculation pumps operating normally.

6. Description of Occurrence:

During the period 0900 March 24, 1977 to 0900 March 25, 1977 156.30 kg of fish and shellfish were impinged on the intake screens of Crystal River Units 1, 2 and 3. Of the 156.30 kg

, impinged, Unit 3 accounted for 99.13 kg (63% of total). Two commercially unimportant species, the batfish and the cowfish ,

1 accounted for 93.05 kg (60% of total). Two commercially '

utilized species, the pink shrimp and the blue crab accounted for 26.35 kg (17% of total). Impingement of all other commercially utilized species was less than 1 kg during the period in question. The remaining biomass impinged was distri- I buted among several species of fish and shellfish. l

7. Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence:

The following unusual or periodic events were noted prior to l or during the occurrence:

A. Barge traffic One oil barge entered the intake canal One coal barge left the intake canal; B. Strong Southwest winds occurred in the Crystal River area on March 23, 1977; C.
