Dixon Callihan, Esquire Administrative Judge Atomic Safety and Licensing Board c/o Union Carbide Corporation P.O. Box Y Oak Ridge, TN 37830 Re: In the Matter of Commonwealth Edison Company <

(Byron Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2)

Docket Nos. 50-454 and 50-455 Gentlemen:

On March 11, 1983, Commonwealth Edison Company notified the Licensing Board and the parties about an error in the material presented in the FSAR concerning the analysis of accidental releases of radioactive liquids to the groundwater. This information was corrected and revised pages to the FSAR were submitted to the Licensing Board, the NRC Staff and the parties on March 21, 1983.

The foregoing information is pertinent to Consolidated Contentions 39 and 109, and as a consequence it was necessary to revise the testimony of Commonwealth Edison Company's witnesses on these contentions. Hence, I am enclosing the revised testimony of Messrs. Holish, Lahti and Klopp. This testimony supersedes that previously filed by these witnesses on March 1, 1983. The March 1 testimony is hereby withdrawn.

I wish to emphasize that the opinions of Mr. Klopp as set forth in his testimony, are based in part,on the probabilistic risk study prepared for the Byron Station. Although no specific portion 8304060292 830404 PDR ADOCK 05000454 n T PDR '3

of that study is incorporated into Mr. Klopp's testimony, his thought processes and, necessarily, his opinion is influenced by his participation in that work.

Sincerely, O

/
