Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attn: Roger S. Boyd, Director Division of Project Management U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 NRC DOCKET NUMBERS 50-424 AND 50-425 CONSTRUCTION PERMIT NUMBERS CPPR-108 AND CPPR-109 ALVIN W. V0GTLE NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 FIRE PROTECTION REEVALUATION Gentlemen:

In your letter of September 30, 1976 you requested that the existing fire protec-tion provisions currently proposed at the Alvin W. Vogtle Nuclear Plant be reevaluated and compared with the guidelines in Appendix A to the Branch Technical Position APCSB 9.5-1.

In our letters of October 29, 1976 and October 25, 1977 we advised you that Georgia Power Company had initiated a reevaluation of the fire protection provisions of the Vogtle Nuclear Plant and anticipated that this reevaluation would be completed by the end of December, 1978.

However, internal arrangements of the principal buildings are still undergoing minor revisions and a fire hazards analysis at this time would not represent the final conditions at the plant. Therefore, in order to have a complete report that is represen-tative of the actual design, we request your concurrence again in delaying the submittal of this report until the end of June,1979.  ;

We would like to stress that detailed consideration is being given to every aspect of Appendix A of this Branch Technical Position by our engineering and design groups, and this extension period will allow us to provide a more meaningful and complete report. l l

Should you have any questions, please advise.

Yours very truly, l 1
