V0GTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT REPLY TO INSPECTION REPORT 50-425/1989-037

?

In.our reply to inspection Report 50-425/1989-037.. Georgia Power Company stated.

all-overdue validation evaluations of calibration instrumentation identified as

. of November 3,1989,. would be completed by February 27, 1990 :In reviewing our  ;

commitment tracking records, we determined that 'all' overdue evaluations. have been completed with one exception. This exception is an evaluation of VP-2693; i a Heise Model 901-A digital pressure indicator. . The evaluation was initiated on 5/31/89.and.affects Unit 2 Reactor Coolant System flow transmitters 2FT-435- _

,  :(Loop 3);and 2F.T-414-(Loop 1), A high potential for tripping the reactor exists

.if the required recalibration of these transmitters is attempted while above 50% ,

of rated 4 thermal. power. ilt should be noted that the coincidental RCS= flow channels and other instrument channels which utilized the same instrumentation for calibration have been checked with no apparent out-of-calibration 4 conditions.

It is our intent to delay the recalibration of the flow: transmitters until .the' first refueling outane for Unit 2. Therefore, full compliance with the Tviolation will not be achieved until November,1990, when the evaluation of-

-VP-2693 is completed.

If there are any questions, please contact my office.
