Description of Devia tion:

Routine gravimetric analysis showed that the suspended solids concentration of the sewage plant effluent was 62 ppm greater than that of the riverwater.

Designation of Apparent Cause of Deviation:

An investigation sl owed that solids had been carried 'over from the settling zone into the chlorine contact tank due to inadequate sludge return flow.

_ Analysis of Deviation: ,

, Because of the short period of time that the sewage plant effluent was out of specification, no detrimental effects to the envi ronment are anticipated.

Corrective Action:

The chlorine contact tank was pumped out and the sludge return line cleaned. A follow-up sample taken on January 6,1976 revealed that the effluent suspended solids concentration was within Environmental

, Technical Specification limits. The Philadelphia Electric Company Engineering Department is investigating the Environmental Deviation.
