11. LASALLE COUNTY STATION: Unit 1 Ill. DOCKET NUMBER: 050-373 IV. EVENT DESCRIPTION Excessive leakage was found on the IB RHR Service Water Radiation Monitor Pump Housing, during normal operation.

V. PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES OF OCCURRENCE The plant was in hot shutdown, Condition 3, at approx. 225 F. Tech Spec 3 3 710 requires the IB RHR Service Water Radiation Monitor operable at all times. There was no service water flow through the IB RHR Heat Exchanger at the time of occurrence. There is no irradiated fuel presently in Unit 1. Safe operation of the plant was maintained.

VI. CAUSE .

The IB RHR Service Water Radiation Monitor Sample pump is on GE Liquid Rack 1D18-J006, Cat. No. 828E144G001, Ser. No. 78-7807-2. The pump is supplied by Prince Pump Company, Model E100-508. The p robable- cause is a blown 0-ring or gasket at the pump housing. The problem is being corrected under work request L 16245

. . V ll. CORRECTIVE ACTION a

The IB RHR Service Water Radiation Monitor was taken out of service (1-1133-82) to stop the leakage. Tech spec 3 3 7.10 allows operation for up to 30 days.

Caution cards (1-454-82) were hung on the CSD RHR Service Water Pumps with the instructions " call Rad / Chem to start 8 hour9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br /> samples when running B RHR Service Water". An entry was made in the Degraded Equipcent Log. Work Request L16245 was completed on 6/9/82 by the installation of a new 0-ring in the IB RHR Service Water Radiation Monitor Pump Housing. The pump passed a functional leak test satisfactorily on 6/10/82.
