Dear Dr. Murley:
Reference (a) addressed commitments which were related to the disas-sembly and inspection of SOR differential pressure switches found unacceptable for use at LaSalle County Station.
On May 9, 1989, Commonwealth Edison and NRR Staff held a meeting to discuss the relaxation of the deportability requirements required by I.E.
Bulletin 86-02 concerning the 50R's. Additionally, the commitment (addressed in Reference (a))~to send SOR switches found unacceptable for use at LaSalle to SOR Inc. for disassembly and inspection was discussed.
As a result of that meeting and also subsequent discussions with Mr.
Paul Shemanski (LaSalle Project Manager) of your staff, it was decided that Commonwealth Edison would no longer send unacceptable SOR switches to SOR Inc.
for disassembly and inspection.
This disassembly and inspection would now be done at the site, and the results provided to the NRC in an agreed upon quarterly report.
This letter documents the relaxation of that commitment.
