. This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject condition, initially reported to the Commission as a potentially re-portable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e).

In the process of reviewing commitments made relative to fire pro-l tection, it was found that CG&E cotaitted to provide a quality assurance

! program to cover the design, procurement, installation and testing of the 1, fire protection systems for the Zimmer Station.

Preliminary checks indicate that S&L did not fulfill the requirements of Branch Technical Position APCSB 9.5-1, Appendix A, relative to design and procurement, and these requirements were not adequately translated into design drawings or specifications by S&L.

Preliminary checks of on-site records indicate a lack of documentation concerning the installation and testing of the fire protection systems.

We are in the procesa of doing a more extensive document review and will submit a follow-up report by February 15, 1983.
