This 1etter constitutes an interim report concerning the
~
subject condition initially reported to the Commission on September 2, 1983 as a potentially reportable deficiency under the requirements of 10CFR50.55 (e).
i CGEE has been notified by its primary contractor, H.J. Kaiser Company (HJK), that Cooperheat, a supplier of subcontracted services as defined by ASME Code,Section III, NB-2600, supplied heat treatment equipment and calibration services without being surveyed and qualified by HJK as required by ASME Code, Section

III, NA-3451. -Since Cooperheat has not been surveyed, the quality of products and services supplied by Cooperheat are indeterminate and present a potentially reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55 (e).
As part of the corrective action to resolve this deficiency, HJK has initiated Corrective Action Request #471 which requires an audit of Cooperheat's f acilities and program.
Also, a preliminary investigation indicates that recording equipment for i;
the heat treating process was supplied and calibrated by subcontractors other than Cooperheat.
Additional time is required to perform this audit and to complete the review of documentation relating to the calibration of the strip chart recorders used in conjunction with the Cooperheat equipment.
The audit is scheduled to oe completed by October 28, 1983, and a follow-up report will be submitted by December 12, 1983.
