ZIMMER NUCLEAR POWER STATION - UNIT 1 10CFR50. 55 f e) , ITEM M-46 TURNING VANE FAILURES IN ESSENTIAL HVAC SYSTEM W.O. 57300, JOB E-5590, FILE NO. 956C, This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject reportable condition reported to the Commission on May 10,- 1982 under 10CFR50.55 (e) . Our previous report LOZ-83-0121 was submitted September 9, 1983.

The design of the modifications to essential turning vanes has been completed. The modifications will be applicable to approximately 160 essential elbows having one of the following characteristics:

1) . Vane width greater than 30 inches, or 2). Located within 5 duct diameters of a fan discharge, or
3) . Located within the Control Room boundary.

An inspection program will be used to verify the adequacy of turning vanes less than 30 inches wide in essential elbows. The inspection program will consist of visually inspecting a random sample of' elbows for vane failures after verifying from plant operating logs that the HVAC system and related ductwork have been operated for a minimum of 720 hours0.00833 days <br />0.2 hours <br />0.00119 weeks <br />2.7396e-4 months <br />. Control Room HVAC (VC), Reactor Building Ventilation (VR) and Switchgear Heat Removal (VX) systems will be involved in the inspection program.

Any deficiencies discovered during the inspection program will be corrected. Completion of Air Test and Balance of HVAC systems VC, VR, VX will not be required prior to the inspection program.

A final report will be submitted upon completion of the ,

corrective actions.
