ZIMMER NUCLEAR POWER STATION - UNIT 1 10CFR50. 5 5 (e) , ITEM Q-12, FAILURE.TO FOLLOW PROCEDURE FOR INSPECTION OF REWORK / REPAIR ACTIVITIES W.O. 57300, JOB E-5590, FILE NO. 956C, This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject condition reported to the Commission as a reportable deficiency on September 9, 1983 under 10CFR50.55(e).

As stated in our previous report, LOZ-83-0178 submitted October 7, 1983, "7000 series" Nonconformance Reports were closed with non-quality assurance personnel verifying the completion of rework and repair activities and that work performed by CG&E's Electric Operating Test Department (EOTD) did not have adeguate QA/.QC coverage where required by 10CFR50 Appendix B.

Consistent with the response to MCAR 83-15, the following steps to resolve this deficiency will be performed under the Plan to Verify the Quality of Construction (PVOC) and the Continuation of Construction Plan (CCP) as recommended in the Course of Action.

11. Nonconformance reports that have been processed will be evaluated in the PVOC to ensure adequate disposition and closecut.

7) . Essential hardware will be inspected to validated design drawings and specifications in the PVQC, and statused as conforming, nonconforming or incomplete. l l

3) . Any resulting rework and repair will be performed in the CCP, in.accordance with approved programs and procedures.

4). New project procedures now under development are being structured to prevent recurrence of this problem.

A final report will be submitted upon the completion of the above.

We trust the above will be found acceptable as an interim report under 10CFR50.55(e).
