ZIMMER NUCLEAR POWER STATION - UNIT 1 10CFR50.55(e), ITEM M-104, ENERGY ABSORBING MATERIAL (EAM) OUALIFICATIONS W.O. 57300, JOB E-5590, FILE NO. 956C, M-104 This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject condition reported to the Commission on December 19, 1983 as a potentially reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e).
Energy absorbing material (EAM) used in the design and construction of high energy pipe whip restraints has not been qualified for the angular loading condition for which it is subjected in the design. The 43 EAM assemblies at Zimmer were furnished by the Limco Manufacturing Company and contain energy absorbing material (EAM) manufactured by American Cyanamid Company.
Test procedure development to further qualify the EAM is in process. A report identifying any deficiencies and the corresponding corrective actions as a result of the tests will be submitted by April 1, 1984.
