ZIP 94ER NUCLEAR POWER STATION - UNIT 1 10CFR50. 55 (e ) , ITEM M-102, FEEDWATER LINE SEISMIC ANALYSIS W.O.~57300, JOB E-5590, FILE NO. 956C, This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject condition reported to the Commission on October 28, 1983 as a reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e).

The following constitutes the substance of our October 28, 1983 report:

The Main Steam Isolation Valve (MSIV) - Leakage Control System (LCS) is required to minimize the release of fission products after a LOCA. As such, the system is designated Category I. Portions of the Feedwater System are designated nonseismic and are in proximity to the MSIV-LCS system outside of containment. The failure of these portions of the feedwater piping during a seismic event could adversely impact MSIV-LCS operation resulting in a release of radioactivity in excess of 10CFR100 limits. Therefore, the Feedwater piping does not conforn to the design requirements of U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Guide 1.29 Position C.2 and is reportable under 10CFR50.55 (e) .

Additional time is necessary to complete the evaluation. A follow-up report will be submitted by February 24, 1984. ]
