additional information is needed to allow continued NRC review of our request.

The specific additional information requested was:

1. Copy of procedure used to effect replacement of the Service Water Pump motor.
2. Copy of procedure used to effect ccnnection of temporary hose for air compressor _ cooling.
3. More detailed information, if available, on time required to change out motor including information on motor size.

Our response to this request follow. l Emergency procedure EMP 3.10 (Attachment 1) covers plant response to fires.

Appendix 1 of EMP 3.10 contains the contingency actions necessary to reach cold shutdown. Sections I-1.3 and 1.4 of this Appendix provide the direction for connecting a Service Water Pump to the Emergency Diesel Generator assuming a loss of normal power. Appendix IV provides additional safe-shutdown direction after severe screenhouse fires which require replacement of the Service Water Pump motor, and connection of the temporary demineralized water hose for air compressor cooling.

The spare motor is stored in the stockroom which is located approximately 300 yards from the screenhouse. Attachment 2 is a motor outline drawing. The-motor is approximately 24" in diameter and 40" long and weighs approximately 800 lbs. As discussed in the October 14, 1986 Exemption Request .the motor can be transported to the screenhouse via crane truck, forklift, or pickup truck.

Vendor instructions-(Attachment 3) are used for Service Water Pump motor removal and installation. Maintenance personnel receive skills _ training in precision measurement / coupling alignment along with motor repair and installa& ion. Following motor replacement, direction in EMP 3.10, Appendix I is used to connect the cables from the Emergency Diesel Generator to the motor if required. ,

Overhaul of the No. 1 Service Water Pump was completed in February,1987.

Complete pump removal including motor disassembly was completed in approxi-mately eight hours and reinstallation in approximately nine hours by three repairmen. Three repairmen can remove, replace, and align the spare motor within five to six hours. Spare cable hookup > if necessary, can be completed in less than one hour. The spare cable (3 conductor, #2 AWG) is stored in the Emergency Diesel Generator room and is approximately 160 feet long. The shortest distance from the motor controllers in the Emergency Diesel Generator room to the Service Water Pumps is approximately 70 feet. The spare cable has been installed and both Service Water Pumps have been trial run with the spare cable.

All of these repairs can be completed well within the required 36 hour4.166667e-4 days
0.01 hours
5.952381e-5 weeks
1.3698e-5 months
time period discussed in the Exemption Request.
