BULLETIN 88-10

'In Consumers Power Company's initial response to NRC Bulletin 88-10, dated March 31, 1989, it was indicated that 71 molded-case circuit breakers (MBC) supplied from Michigan Lectrols Corporation were in stock, and potentially:

untraceable to the original MCB manufacturer. Since that time, it has been determined through contact with the supplier and-MCB manufacturer (Heineman) .

and by examination of the date of manufacture coding on the MCBs that trace-ability to the MCB manufacturer can be established.

The MCBs were ordered and received in 1980. The order was for 80 Type JEl-A3-A- l-3, 250 VAC,1 AMP, 44 Type JEl-B3-A-1-3 50 VDC,1 AMP, and 4

-JEl-A3-A-5-3, 250 VAC, 5 AMP, single pole MCBs. Of the 128 McBs received, 56 have been installed to date (leaving 72 in stock, a correction to the March 31 Bulletin response - 71 JEl-A3-A-1-3 and 1 JEl-B3-A-1-3 remain in stock).

Installation occurred as follows: 1 in 1981, 44 in 1982, 1 in 1983, 1 in 1985, 1 in 1986 and 8 in 1987. All MCBs were installed in the Reactor Protective System. Since traceability of both the in-stock and installed MCBs  ;

has been established, justification (s) for continued operation will not be l prepared, and the 72 MCB will remain in-stock. i p
