OF PUBLIC WEBINAR WITH AMEREN MISSOURI TO DISCUSS THE NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSIONS 2020 ANNUAL ASSESSMENT OF CALLAWAY PLANT DOCKET NO. 50-483 On July 28, 2021, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a virtual public Observation Meeting with a Question and Answer Session. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the results of the NRCs 2020 annual assessments for the Callaway Plant that was in the Regulatory Response Column of the Reactor Oversight Process Action Matrix and to provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions. Licensee representatives from Ameren Missouri provided a verbal response to the NRCs assessment and answered questions but had no formal presentation.
In response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the meeting was held remotely through a Cisco Webex webinar and a Verizon phone bridge. The following documents related to the meeting are available in ADAMS: NRC Region IV Annual Assessment Letters for Callaway Plant,(ML21055A006); Assessment Meeting Presentation Slides (ML21211A601); and Assessment Meeting Audio Recording (ML21211A602).

A. Vegel                                    2 During the meeting, the NRC staff provided an overview of the Reactor Oversight Process, the NRCs response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, a description of the Resident Inspector Program, and the overall performance assessment for the Callaway Plant. NRC staff explained that Callaway Plant operated safely in 2020 and had a White input for the Unplanned Reactor Scrams per 7,000 Critical Hours performance indicator. The NRC determined the performance at the Callaway Plant was within the Regulatory Response Column of the NRC's Action Matrix, because all inspection findings had very low (i.e., Green) safety significance, but the licensee had reported one White performance indicator starting in the fourth quarter 2020 for Unplanned Reactor Scrams. The NRC will perform supplemental inspection IP 95001 after the licensee has performed casual evaluations, has developed corrective actions, and reports its readiness for inspection.
The meeting was conducted from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. (CDT), with an NRC staff member facilitating the meeting. There were 44 individuals in attendance, 10 of which were NRC staff members available for answering questions. In addition to NRC staff, the attendees included licensee representatives from Ameren Missouri. Other attendees included representatives from the Missouri Office of the Public Counsel, Missouri Public Service Commission, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and members of the public. The NRC and Ameren personnel answered questions concerning examples of licensee performance and the expected schedule for returning the plant to service.
