Letter of Submittal Indicating No Federal Funds Available for Conversion of the Texas A&M Nuclear Science Center Reactor From the Use of HEU Fuel to LEU Fuel

Dear Sir:

In accordance with U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Rule 10CFR Part 50.64,c,(2),

(ii), a statement that Federal Government funding is not available for conversion

- of the Texas A&M University, Nuclear Science Center TRIGA reactor (NSCR) from HEU to LEU fuel during Fiscal Year 1987 is herewith submitted. Attached is a letter dated 3 December 1986 from Richard E. Stephens, Director, Division of University and Industry Programs, Office of Field Operations Management, Office of Energy Research, Department of Energy stating that such funds are not available.

The NSCR does not have further plans for conversion in 1987 and will notify the Commission by March of 1988 if funds have been made available in Fiscal Year 1988 for conversion. Plans as required in 10CFR Part 50.64,c,(2,)(i) will be developed and submitted should funding be made available.
