AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION
i | |||
j Dear Mr. Rainey: | |||
: | |||
j This letter refers to the engineering team inspection conducted November 16 through
i December 4,1998, at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station. The inspection evaluated the
i effectiveness of the engineering organization in supporting safe operation of your facility. The
' | |||
inspection focused on the reactor core isolation cooling and 4kV electrical distribution systems'
l operation under normal and emergency operation conditions. The inspection also addressed ;
I the performance of engineering in . support of the operations and maintenance functions, with l
' | |||
. | |||
emphasis on problem identification and corrective action implementation, and plant safety
< | |||
evaluations. The enclosed report provides the results of the inspection. The preliminary -i

findings and conclusions were presented to Mr. Doering and others of your staff on j

j The team concluded that PECO provided effective engineering support to the station. In-depth
review of the reactor core isolation cooling (RCIC) and_4Kv electrical distribution systems
i determined that both systems were operable and capable of performing their design basis
j functions and that the analyses and procedures supporting these systems were generally ;
j' accurate. Also, based on several areas reviewed, the team concluded that plant problems are !
. being identified, root causes determined, corrective actions taken, and results monitored in a ';
generally effective manner. :
