Gentlemen:
This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject condition initially reported to the Commission under the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e) .
Since our previous report, QA-1974, dated September 14, 1982, H. J. Kaiser Company (HJK), has completed its radiographic review of welds in the sacrificial shield, and has forwarded this film to the CG&E NDE Level III and Sargent and i Lundy for review and evaluation. It was originally anticipated that a program I for corrective action would be determined by December 31, 1982. However, possible deficiencies in the qualification of the welding procedures used for sacrificial shield welds (reported to the Commission as 10CFR50.55(e) report #M-73) has 1 postponed this determination. This concern will be evaluated concurrently with the M-73 concerns. A follow-up report will be submitted by February 28, 1983.
We trust the above will be found acceptable as an interim report under 10CFR50. 55(e) .
