SUBJECT: EROSION / CORROSION MONITORING PROGRAM INSPECTION AT THE

PEACH BOTTOM ATOMIC POWER STATION - COMBINED

INSPECTION NOS. 50-277/93-16 AND 50-278/93-16

This letter refers to the inspection intended to promote public health and safety conducted by

Mr. R. A. McBrearty of this office from July 12 to July 15, 1993, at the Peach Bottom

Atomic Power Station, Delta, Pennsylvania. Mr. McBrearty discussed the findings with

Mr. G. D. Edwards and others of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

This inspection was directed toward the activities relative to the long-term erosion / corrosion

monitoring program as accomplished in accordance with Generic Letter 89-08 and licensee

commitments and procedures. The mitigation of erosior./ corrosion in high energy piping is

important to maintain pressure boundary component integrity.

The inspection consisted of selective examinations of precedures and representative records,

interviews with personnel and observations by the inspector. The erosion / corrosion program

and its implementation were determined to be generally good and effective. We noted that
