King of Prussia, PA 19406 Re: Nine Mile Point - Unit 2 Docket No. 50-410

Dear Mr. Starostecki:

Niagar Mohawk submitted 50.55(e) interim reports on June 3, 1983 August 12, 1983 and December 20, 1983 for the problem concerning W. J. Woolley Company's quality , assurance documentation. Since then the submittal date of the final draft has been deferred several times. Although we do not presently have all the information necessary t submit a final report, we would like to provide a status of the work completed to date and a description of the open items.

On October 5,1984 Stone & Webster wrote a letter to Woolley Manufacturing Division that provided the following status:

1. The Stone & Webster audit of Woolley Quality Assurance documentation in April,1983 identified 116 unsatisfactory observations.
2. Based on Woolley's efforts from December,1983 through March,1984, the number of unresolved observations was reduced to 38, 3 Woolley provided additional information from April,1984 through August, 1984 which Stone & Webster used to reduce to 16 the number of observations remaining to be closed.

4 Woolley has offered an explanation as to how the remaining discrepancies ,

may have occurred. However, Stone & Webster requires further substantiation of Woolley's explanation to assure the welds involved were

. properly inspected.
