Westronics Model 2100C Series Recorders EnviroTech Controls Inc( rporated (ECI) recently performed a seismic qualification test on our Model 2100 secorder to ascertain the impact of manufacturing changes to the chassis and the power supply. While the design changes were validated as not affecting the qualification, two anomatics were noted during the test. It was observed over several tests that the recorder would occasionally reset during peak acccleration. Also, the door was being forced off the recorder from its lower attachment point. The door assists in retaining the chart i

magazine. With the door loose, the chart magazine could povibly eject from the recorder.

The reset anomaly was traced to the chassis connectors at the rear input panels. To preclude the potential problem, ew connectors with a higher tension were acquired and installed. The recorder was also fitted with all three ur input panels (Power, Signal and Options). llaving all three pancis installed reduces chassis movement within the case. The additional connector tension reduces contact ficx during extreme vibration.

The door anomaly was resolved by adding small retaining clips that attach to the bottom of the door. These clips capture the door pivoi shaft and, in conjunction with the existing latch clip at the top of the door, prevent the door from detaching.

it is viewed that the overall impact of these anomatics on exiging units is minimal. This is based on the fact that they only occurred at the full SSE (10G) k,cl and that the problems were not seen during any previous tests of this model. This potential problem would only occur in Model 2100C recorders built prior to 1933. ECI has not received any data that indicates that there has been a failure of any Model 2100C during a scismic event.

A kit is available under part number KT100216C. It includes instructions, three new rear terminal panels, the door clips and a new door. This item may be obtained by contacting ECPs Service or Spare Parts department (Westronics recorders), telephone number 713/348-1820. Retro-fitting 30ur recorder (s) with this kit will climinate any unecriainty of recorder opcration during sciunic events.
