w NIAGARA it0FAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE ilILE POINT - UNIT 2 DOCKET NO. 50-410 Interin Report for a Problen Concerning Insufficient Flow Rate for the Hydrogen Recorbiners (55(e)-86-22)
Description of the Problem During preoperational testing of the Nine Mile Point 2 Hydrogen Recortiners, 2HCS*RBNRIA/B, the design flow rate of 150 SCFil could not be attained.
Testing has indicated that the maxinun flowrate attainable is approxinately 60 SCFM, with water injection, and 90 SCFM without water injection.
An investigation of the causes for this insufficient flow has indicated that the design of the suction and discharge piping for the recorbiner units is inadequate in that the piping systen design, utilizes globe valves as contain-ment isolation valves, which causes a high restriction in these suction and discharge lines.
Niagara Mohawk is perforning extensive trouble shooting of the hydrogen recorbiner systen during the preoperational testing progran.
It is expected that this testing will be conplete by December 5,1986 and the final report will be submitted at that time.
