In accordance with Nine Mile Point Unit 1 (NMP1) Technical Specification (TS) Table 3.6.11-2, " Accident Monitoring Instrumentation," Action Statement 4.a, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (NMPC) is submitting the following Special Report concerning the inoperability of the Channel 12 Drywell Pressure Monitor. /

Descriotion of Event On December 22,1998, at approximately 1223 hours0.0142 days <br />0.34 hours <br />0.00202 weeks <br />4.653515e-4 months <br />, with the reactor mode switch in the k "RUN" position during normal operations, operators removed the non-TS Channel 12 Drywell Pressure Recorder and the associated TS Pressure Indicator from service to correct intermittent signal wire connections internal to the recorder.

rance of Event The cause of the event was an intermittent measuring cable connection in the non-TS recorder circuitry due to normal wear.

cometin Arrinns j l Under Work Order 98-07079-00, Instrument and Controls (I&C) technicians replaced the

! measuring cable in the pressure recorder circuitry that had caused the intermittent connection.

I&C technicians then satisfactorily tested the non-TS Channel 12 Drywell Pressure Recorder l and the associated TS Pressure Indicator. Operators declared the equipment operable on l Decem'r- 24,1998, and returned the instruments to service.
