Quad Cities Station Units 1 and 2 Environmental Qualification of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment NRC Docket Nos. 50-254/265 Reference (a): March 17, 1981 letter from T. M. Novak to J. S. Abel

Dear Mr. Denton:

Pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 50.54(f) and in accordance with the request of reference (a) this letter proviaes a written statement supporting the continued safe operation of the Quaa Cisies Units 1 ana 2 retctors with regard to the environmental qualification of electrical equipment.

Reference (a) provided a list of potential equipment deficiencies that have been identified by the NRC Staff in reviewing the Quad Cities Units 1 and 2 safety-related electrical equipment to the D0R guidelines. That list has been reviewed and it has been concluded that continued operation is justified. ~

When the staff identifies the basis for each of the potential deficiencies identified in Appendix 8 of reference (a), a more detailed evaluation could be performed and a report submittea to document the specifics of our position with regard to each item.

This reply does not imply concurrence with the findings discussed in Reference (a). The detail provided in reference (a) was not sufficient to allow us to review the validity of the findings.
